Mega Sports Camp is a 3-day event that we host every summer at one of our partnering Schools. This year, we held the camp at Nitsch Elementary and invited students from two other nearby elementary schools. Together we played sports, discussed Bible lessons, and built friendships. Mega Sports Camp has become more than a way to stay connected with the kids we love over the summer. It's an avenue for Bridging For Tomorrow to meet some of the physical needs of our neighbors and show them God's love in a tangible way. We provide meals to the children who attend and send many of them home with a bag of groceries for their families.
Mega Sports Camp also give us the opportunity to meet new families and build relationships with them. We can then connect them with other programs, like our Food Pantry or after school clubs, where we can work together to make our community stronger. The kids who attend learn that God loves them and has a plan for each of their lives. We believe that these lessons and the relationships that they build with our team of Community Builders give them hope for their future and inspire them to become leaders themselves.
When I got the chance to serve with Bridging For Tomorrow in implementing Mega Sports Camp 2017, I had no idea what I was getting into. I was assigned a group of kindergarteners for the week, so the term “eager” hardly describes their endless energy. One student in particular, Emily, stood out. As the parents arrived on the last day of camp and the children grew restless, I felt a tug on the bottom of my shirt. Emily looked up at me beaming with arms high above her head, and said,” I can feel it! It feels like Jesus is all around me!” While serving for only three days, I got to see God arrive and work on the hearts of over 100 kids, as well as my own.
